The PICkit 3 is a reliable and cost-effective USB debugger and programmer designed for PIC® and dsPIC® Flash microcontrollers. It connects to a PC via a full-speed USB interface and works seamlessly with the MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for programming and real-time debugging.

This development tool supports real-time execution, allowing processors to run at maximum speed while being debugged. It provides stable USB connectivity and improved performance compared to older ICD2 programmers. The unit includes built-in over-voltage and short-circuit protection to safeguard both the programmer and target device.

The PICkit 3 supports a wide operating voltage range from 1.8V to 5V, making it compatible with a variety of microcontrollers. It can read and write both program and data memory, and supports programming of up to 512KB of Flash memory. The device also features diagnostic LEDs to indicate power, activity, and status.

Additional capabilities include full memory erase (EEPROM, ID, configuration, and program memory) with verification, peripheral freeze at breakpoints, and low-voltage programming support. It connects to the target board using a standard 6-pin ICSP interface cable.
