HM-10 BLE Bluetooth 4.0 CC2541 Wireless Module

The HM-10 BLE Bluetooth 4.0 module is a compact and powerful wireless communication solution designed to add Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capability to embedded systems. Built around the Texas Instruments CC2541 or CC2540 chip, this module enables reliable BLE communication with smartphones, tablets, and other BLE-capable devices such as Android phones, iPhones, and iPads.
The HM-10 operates using Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) technology, offering lower power consumption compared to classic Bluetooth modules like the HC-05. This makes it ideal for battery-powered and IoT applications where energy efficiency is critical. The module supports transparent UART data transmission, allowing serial communication between a microcontroller and a BLE device without complex protocol handling. By default, it operates at a baud rate of 9600 bps, though this can be modified using AT commands.
This module is essentially a breakout board for the CC2541/CC2540 SoC. It exposes important pins such as VCC, GND, TXD, RXD, STATE, and BRK, and includes an onboard voltage regulator that converts 5V input down to 3.3V, ensuring safe operation of the BLE chip. This makes it directly compatible with many 5V microcontrollers without additional power regulation circuitry.
The HM-10 features a rich and well-documented AT command set, enabling users to configure parameters such as device name, baud rate, pairing password, transmission power, and device role. It can be configured in slave mode and, in some firmware versions, supports flexible role switching depending on the chip version and firmware. This configurability makes it highly adaptable for different embedded and automation projects.
It is widely used in wireless data transmission, remote control systems, home automation, wearable devices, IoT nodes, health monitoring systems, and wireless sensor data acquisition. Its stable performance, ease of configuration, and low power consumption make it one of the most convenient BLE modules for serial communication replacement in modern embedded designs.
